Intimate Calgary Wedding at The Commons

September 12, 2018

Jade and Krista reached out to me over a year ago to capture their wedding day. From our first meeting I could tell this was going to be different from my usual weddings, and I was stoked.

They held their beautiful and intimate ceremony on Scotsman's Hill overlooking Calgary's skyline, to which they arrived at in Car2Go's and walked down the aisle together. J+K expressed that they wanted artsy and unique wedding photos - which made me both nervous and excited. It's not too often that we as photographers get to be fully creative on a wedding day, but these two were game for anything!

I took them around East Village and Inglewood and we played with graffiti, smoke bombs, and of course, Calgary's wicked architecture. Both these ladies are architects and had an eye for the most beautiful locations.

Instead of a receiving line and grand entrance, they opted for greeting each guest individually as they arrived to the cocktail reception. Their family gave beautiful heartfelt speeches and then they opened up the floor to anyone that wanted to give a toast. They then finished the night off partying with their grandma's and eating amazing food – including pizza at 11pm. Can we make this a wedding tradition?!

It was a wedding I'll never forget and one that made me remember why I love intimate and unique weddings so much. If you're a bride or groom and you're finding the whole "wedding" thing isn't suiting your fancy, make it your own! If you want pizza for dinner, go for it. If you want to get ready with your partner, go for it. If you want your first dance to happen without any formal announcement, go for it! If you want to arrive to your ceremony in Car2Go's, go for it! If you want to elope, GO FOR IT!

Your wedding is YOUR day and these two are proof that you can have a pretty amazing wedding when you make it your own.
